Not All Badge Holders are the same

CardPrintersDirect.com has been supplying over 300 different badge holders to our government customers for some time now. Filtering through the massive collection can be quite daunting even though we break them down into sub categories. So we figured we would share what other government and military organizations are buying.

Secure Badge HolderFirst and foremost are the FIPS201 Secure Badge Holders : The 1840-5081 and 1840-5080 have been by far are most popular badge holders for government customers. Ever since the US government has released the HSPD-12 NIST Standard, FIPS 201, requiring that Personal Identity Verification (PIV) cards, such as those issued through the GSA USAccess Program, be kept in a FIPS 201 compliant Electromagnetically Opaque Sleeve/Card Holder when not in use we have been shipping these on a daily basis.  These two FIPS201 compliant badge holders give our customers a choice between a Vinyl or Rigid Plastic ID holder that allows the user easy access to his cards for access control or log in. In addition these particular badge holders can be customized with the organizations or companies logo.

The second most popular government badge holder has been the Rigid Plastic Colored Series. The popularity is driven by US Military bases needing a rugged 2 card badge holder. Rigid Plastic Badge holders provide a great way to protect name badges or ID cards from bending or damage. In addition, the different colors allow security personnel to visibly detect different departments or ranks.  In addition, these rigid badge holders come in either horizontal or vertical display.  The combination of slot and chain holes allows the military institutions to choose a variety of ways to hand the badge holder, from basic bead chain, lanyards or badge reels.

In addition to the above badge holders we offer 100′s of other styles from low cost convention badge holders to vinylproximity card holders. With that said give us a call at 888-377-2548 and we will guide you through the process of choosing the correct holder for your specific type of ID card or Badge.

Identity card must to cast vote‎

By Ansar Abbasi
ISLAMABAD: In a major step towards electoral reforms in Pakistan, the government will soon move a draft law in parliament to make Nadra’s Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC) mandatory for voting in elections.

Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan told The News here on Friday that the bill was expected to be moved in the National Assembly during its ongoing session and when enacted would make the old NIC and other documents of identity invalid for voting. “The Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) would be the unique identifier as per the law,” he said.

He explained that on the basis of computerised electoral rolls, a registered voter would be required to produce Nadra’s CNIC to cast the vote. The draft law, he said, had been finalised and sent to the Law Ministry to be moved in parliament for enactment.

Khan said that the draft bill would amend the two existing laws, the Electoral Rolls Act and Representation of Peoples’ Act, to introduce the reforms under which voting would be done on the basis of computerised electoral rolls whereas the voters would have to show the CNIC at the time of voting.

The secretary ECP said that the government was showing extreme keenness to get the draft law passed from parliament at the earliest. He said that the draft law had been prepared by the Election Commission in consultation with Nadra, Interior Ministry, Law Ministry and other stakeholders.

He said that through these reforms, rigging in voting would be comprehensively checked. The computerised electoral rolls would ensure that no voter was registered at two different places whereas the CNIC being the unique identifier would enable only the genuine voter to cast his vote by showing the genuine copy of the Nadra’s ID card.

“It would help resolve the decades old issue of rigged voting,” he said and added that work for the computerised electoral rolls had already been started and in the first step, electoral rolls in four districts, one in each province, had already been completed by the Election Commission with the help of Nadra.

In the second step, he said, the electoral rolls would be computerised all over Pakistan and this process would be completed by the end of 2011. These electoral reforms would set the stage for the next general elections to be held in a manner where fake ID cards would not work. Similarly, those political parties or politicians, who had a large number of old ID cards with them for use for voting would also not work.

Under the new system, the voters’ identity as well as the electoral rolls would be dependent on Nadra’s database, which is considered a remarkable achievement in Pakistan.

According to the secretary ECP, in addition to the above-discussed reforms, the commission is also closely working with the Telephone Industry of Pakistan (TIP) and Science and Technology authorities to introduce electronic voting machines to bring refinement in the electoral system.

Brazil starts to issue new ID cards

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Justice Minister Luiz Paulo Barreto on Thursday joined their countrymen to apply for a new chip-based identity card.

It is a magnetic card with digital printing and an electronic chip that stores information about the card-holder's name, gender, date of birth, photograph, affiliation, place of birth, signature, fingerprint, place and date of issuance and expiration.

The new ID card, using state-of-the-art technology, is designed to avoid repeated indentity registeration in different states, as well as confusions caused by different people with the same name.

The process of replacing all old ID cards with the new ones is expected to take more than a decade in Brazil, with two million Brazilians getting their new ID cards in the next year free of charge.

The cost of the replacement is estimated at 55 million U.S. dollars in 2011, which will be covered by the Justice Ministry.

Nexus Collections Survey Lists Conference Bags Leader of Promotional Goods for Events

7/1/2010 - In a recent survey undertaken by Nexus Collections, 23 percent of respondents identified Conference / Exhibition Bags to be the most effective branding opportunity available.

Nick Jones, Nexus Collections managing director, said, “Naturally we were overjoyed to see that conference bags, our primary product, are still considered the most effective by conference and exhibition organisers. When encouraged to provide more information, most individuals feel that it is the bag’s longevity that makes them such good branding opportunities – particularly on the higher quality bags, which you frequently see at subsequent events, meetings or even just used by individuals as everyday briefcases!”

Pens, notepads and lanyards were all popular as well, with around 10% of the vote each. Jones continues, “Like the conference bags, both the pens and notepads have longevity with many delegates taking them away and using them on into the future. I can also appreciate the popularity of lanyards as they are so visible at events, every delegate and member of the team sees not just their own, but the hundreds around them as well.”

Full results/Question: “Which branding opportunities do you find most effective at events?”
· Conference bags - 22.6%
· Badge Lanyards - 10.4%

Facial images and fingerprints will be captured to verify the identity of travellers, according to a press release by air transport firm Sita, which is installing the systems.

"We can now be confident that people match passports," said Mr Erwin Azis, director of Information Systems at the immigration department, or Imigrasi.

The system has been put in place at the Adisucipto International Airport in Yogyakarta, and will be installed at the remaining ports by June.

A national ID card in 2010?

A new attempt at immigration reform may require a biometric ID card for all working Americans. Privacy advocates aren't pleased.

National identification cards, long feared by privacy advocates, may soon become mandatory for American workers. In an bipartisan effort to curb the hiring of illegal immigrants, Sens. Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) have proposed legislation that, if passed, will require all working Americans to carry biometric ID cards containing fingerprint records and other personal information.

First electronic Malta ID cards later this year

The first electronic identity cards are expected to be issued at the end of this year, the Infrastructure Ministry said yesterday.

Reacting to comments by Opposition Leader Joseph Muscat, the ministry said the validity of existing ID cards had been extended in order to allow more time for the launch of the nation-wide renewal of ID cards. The change process was going according to plan and was now in an important stage.

The ministry said the electronic ID cards would mean greater security, not least because they would include more information on their owners, including fingerprints. The information would be stored in the card. Thus, it would be difficult to have a repetition of the recent case where an ID card was issued to the wrong person, it said.

The ministry said the Opposition Leader was therefore wrong to imply that the recent extension of the validity of the ID cards hid some ulterior motive.

It pointed out that people who lost their ID cards or had a change in their circumstances - such as when they got married or moved house - were getting their ID cards replaced quickly and free of charge.

Plan to rob Sri Lanka ID cards

Plan to rob ID cards

Certain opposition political parties have a plan to rob the National Identity Cards belonging to voters by threatening them in certain areas which are politically advantageous for the UPFA candidate at the forthcoming Presidential Election, said Education Minister Susil Premajayantha addressing a meeting organized by Tharuna Aruna III Independent Graduates Union held in Colombo.

The Minister said this matter had been brought to the notice of the Elections Commissioner.

There is a certain political party notorious for this robbery behind the scene. The people are still aware of those who robbed their identity cards during the 1988-89 period. Therefore it is the duty of everybody to protect the voting rights of the people, the Minister said.

It was President Mahinda Rajapaksa who cleared the way for Ranil Wickremesinghe to go around the country despite the fact that the latter gave part of the country to the LTTE through the Ceasefire Agreement of 2002. Today the JVP which started the violence in 1971 and 1988/89 has joined forces with the UNP which, in turn, put 60,000 youth on tyre pyres. Both Ranil and Somawansa are the founders of the then terror period and are now bosom friends, the Minister said.

New ID system installed for Spring Festival trains

GUANGZHOU: People returning home for Spring Festival can expect lengthy delays at train stations after the introduction of a new ID-based ticket booking system.

The Ministry of Railways announced that passengers would have to show their ID card or other recognized identity document when buying a train ticket at 37 railway stations in Guangdong, Sichuan, Hunan and Guizhou provinces.

The system will be effective between Jan 30 and Feb 13.

Spring Festival, or the Lunar Chinese New Year holiday, starts on Feb 14. Scalpers have traditionally used this holiday to stockpile tickets and sell them at much higher prices.

The stations covered by the new system and managed by Guangzhou Railway Group include seven in Guangdong and 19 in the neighboring Hunan.

The Guangzhou Railway Group said the new system would greatly increase the difficulty in organizing transport and become a challenge to Spring Festival railway transport.

Travelers are urged to use the latest version of their ID card to speed up the checking process.

DMV begins issuing Advance Secure Issuance Licenses and ID Cards

As of this past Monday, Jan. 11, the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles in Carson City has begun issuing Advanced Secure Issuance (ASI) licenses and ID cards.

ASI is a new license or ID card marked with a gold star indicating it meets federal identification standards for boarding commercial aircraft and entering federal buildings where identification is required, and the DMV will also begin issuing those licenses and/or ID cards on Feb. 1 in Reno, and eventually statewide

Because the Department has met the first 18 bench marks of the federal Real ID Act, the licenses and ID cards Nevadans currently possess will be good for federal purposes for several years.

As a result, the Department recommends that motorists wait until their normal renewal date in the years ahead before applying for an ASI card.

The documents required to prove identity for an ASI card are the same documents Nevada already requires for first-time licensees and new residents. The difference is that DMV will be accepting only those documents it can electronically verify, and the only additional information required for an ASI card is utility bills or phone bills to prove residency.

Debate intensifies over full-body scanners

The Christmas Day near-bombing invigorated an already-keen interest in whole-body scanners; there is debate going on over the effectiveness – and health risks – of the two main technologies available: millimeter-wave radiation and backscatter radiation; some suggest soft chemical ionization as an alternative

Security and health concerns over the use of full-body scanners in detecting terrorist threats have been raised following U.K. prime minister Gordon Brown’s decision to roll out the technology across Britain’s airports. The prime minister said that passengers would see the “gradual” introduction of the scanners for flights in and out of the UK, alongside the use of metal detectors and hand-luggage checks, as part of a heightened security screening process.

Gov't worker may have used fake ID

Gov't worker may have used fake ID

RCMP officials are investigating whether a B.C. government employee at the centre of a major privacy breach used false identification to get his job, court documents show.

The allegation is contained in a sworn statement that police used to get a search warrant for the Victoria home of Richard Ernest Wainwright in April. He has not been charged with any offence.

The warrant information alleges that Wainwright, 44, used forged or altered documents to obtain a B.C. identification card and driver's licence in the name of Richard Ernest Perran.

"I believe that Wainwright used this false information in order to gain employment with the B.C. government," Sgt. Andrew Cowan, head of the federal commercial crime unit in Victoria, wrote in the warrant information.

During the search, police seized equipment suspected of being used to produce fake identity documents, including a laminator, card printer, counterfeit currency detector, scanner and high-performance colour photo printer, according to search warrant documents obtained by the Victoria Times Colonist.
