France-based Inside Contactless received the top nod in the hardware category in Monday's Sesames Awards presentation, one of 10 Sesames organizers handed out. The contest is part of the Cartes & Identification 2007 show going on in Paris this week. Inside won for its MicroPass L4-2G, designed for contactless banking cards. Inside expects to have shipped a total 40 million units by the end of the year, according to Rémy de Tonnac, Inside's president and CEO. In the software category, France-based Gemalto won for its SConnect, which enables Web applications to link with smart cards. Other winners, by category, included:
Identification: Iris Corp. for its IRIS ST4ex, a mobile terminal for chip ID cards.
IT Security: Oberthur Card System's Cardblade, a USB token.
Transport: Ultrapay's MT3000, a mobile card reader for taxis and limousines.
Banking, Finance, Retail: Atos Worldwide's SIPS IPTV for electronic payment through TV screens.
Health Care: MXI Security's Stealth MXP, a USB-enabled portable security device.
Mobile: Oberthur's SIMphonIC FlyBuy Duo, which offers two secure elements on a SIM card designed for NFC phones.
e-Transaction: NXP Semiconductors' Secure Display Card Inlay Loyalty: Tagattitude's AudioTag, designed to turn existing mobile phones into secure payment devices. (2007-11-13)
